New Zealand Team Lose to

England in Pairs.

HAMILTON, August 18

The first bowling victory, at the Empire Games went to England, Colquohoun defeating Thorns (South Africa) by 22 points to 12 in the singles event.

England scored a second bowling win when Hills and Wright outpointed the New Zealand pair, McWannell and Fielding, by 20 points to" 13.

England forced the pace to score six shots in the last three ends. The teams were level .5-5 at the seventh end, and the New Zealanders went into a fourpoint lead in the next five ends. England counted three at the thirteenth, added t?\7o at the fourteenth- and were never headed thereafter.

In their section of the doubles Canada (Reid and Moore) defeated South Africa (Hall and Giovanette) by 24 points to 10.

In the rinks Scotland defeated New Zealand by 20 points to 11. The Scots got a six at the thirteenth, to go into a commanding lead, which they maintained to the end.

In the singles Thorns (South Africa) defeated Reid (Vancouver), the Canadian champion, by 21 points to 7.

The Hamilton Canadian rink teat an English four skipped by Frith by 27 points to 19.

HIGH DIVING EVENT.

A WIN FOR CANADA.

(Received 12.30 p.m.) HAMILTON, August 18. Alfred Phillips won the high diving championship for Canada. Walker (Canada) was second, and Scott (England) third.

MONTREAL, August 18. The New Zealand eight has smoothed out during the last week at Hamilton, and is the local choice to take the eights title at the Empire Games.
