WOMEN'S INSTITUTES.
WAIUKU. The. monthly meeting of, this branch was held on August ,15, when Mrs. Teape presided over about 40 members. Business .having been disposed of, a demonstration of cream cheese making followed. During teatime an amusing competition entitled "A Motor Story" was held and was won.by Mrs.■Fitchett. Th 6 hostesses were Mrs. Knight, Miss Knight and Mrs; Hosk.ing.
RAGLAN. The Raglan branch of the .Women's Institute held its monthy meeting on Friday last. Mrs. A , . L. Pegler presided. Seven new members'- .wer.e> welcomed. It was decided to.'hold a, husband's evening in October! A rolllcall brought in many' useful household hints. The Rev. J. Smeetli ■ ■ gave an interesting and amusing lecture on , "Humour," . after which a,presentation .was made by the president on behalf of..the-Women's Institute to Mrs. J. Smeeth on the occasion of her leaving; the'district. A demonstration on picture framing,.gjyen by Mrs. Bur'son wasr inuch appreciated; Afternoon tea was served by Mrs. A. L. Pegler, Mrs. E. Galvan and Miss M. Donn. A "scents", competition arranged by Mrs, Johns was won by Mrs. C. Hind first, and Mrs. F; Bernard second. The first prize for best scones went to Mrs. C. Beach, second Mrs. Cowley, third Mrs. Carpenter. Mr. E. W. Bernard acted as judge.
WAIOTAHL- ; The Waiotahi Women's Institute was a : year ago and celebrated its anniversary on Wednesday 'by giving a birthday'party. Members of the Qpbtiki and'Waimftna-lSfukuhou, Institutes . had been "invited: The business of the' meeting was quickly dealt ,with, : ahd the rest of the time was .devoted to gamej-s, competitions and fun; A•. 3d. .arid. Id race between teams froni the visiting institutes caiised great' amusemetft, as did-a relay race later on: Waiotahi had catered well''for its Visitors, a dainty afternoon tea being provided, while the birthday cake, made by Mrs. Malcolm, and iced i>y ; Mr,' Fryer, was much admired. During the afternoon songs were given by Mrs. Campbell and Mrs. Skusc. An exhibits table was divided into three sections,'things being shown by members, husbands of members, and relatives of members.' It attracted considerable interest. Mrs. Main and Mrs. 7 Wylde, presidents'- of the visiting institutes thanked Waiotahi 'members for. their hospitality. ■ ~.•-•--i
