"NO END OF TROUBLE."
TERMS OP PROBATION ' DISOBEYED. MAGISTRATE'S WARNING. Although he was placed on probation in 1925 and again last year, Stanley James Jansen, according to Mr. W. -T. Campbell, probation officer, has been a source of never-endjng trouble. He did not obey the terms of the order, and a* a result appeared in the Police Court this morning charged with failing fo comply with the terms and conditions of his release on probation. On July 11, 1925, said the probation officer, accused was convicted of obtaining money by fraud and was placed on probation for two years. He had given no end of trouble. He. had failed to report and had disobeyed the Court's order to make restitution of the money he had obtained. Last year his term of probation was further extended, but accused had made no effort to comply with the terms of his release. He was a married man and had two children. "Frankly," said Mr. Campbell, "I don't know -wliat to do with him." Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M.: Why didn't you report?—-I have been up the country. "You could have reported there." *In reply to the magistrate accused said he was working at Papatoetoe. Mr. Hunt: You can report there. Why don't you? —I don't get the time. lam living at Devonport and have to catch the first boat in the morning and a late one at night coming to and from work. , Mr. Hunt: You were convicted of theft, but instead of sending you to gaol the Court gave you a chance to make good. You, however, failed to take anv notice of the order of the Court. The magistrate asked Mr. Campbell what he suggested for accused, and the probation officer said it was difficult to know what to do with. him. The only thing standing in the way of imprisonment was the fact that he- had a wife and family to support. Mr. Hunt: In that ease I will put you on probation for another twelve months.
