« TRANSPORT FOR MANGERE. PROPOSED AFFILIATION WITH AUCKLAND BOARD. COMMITTEE TO INVESTIGATE. "The time has come to put the Mangere Riding on the map so far as transport is concerned/'' said Mr. j S. W. Rickards at a meeting of the Manukaxi County Council to-day, in moving that a committee be set up to investigate the desirability of making application for Mangere to be included in the Transport Board's area.
It was suggested that information regarding costs and working expenses should be obtained relating to the inauguration of a system of either electric rail trams, trackless trams, or steam bus services, and possible revenue from same, together with the basis of possible fares. Other points "which it was suggested should be investigated were the likely charge to ratepp.yers for guaranteeing to the Transport Board interest on capital cost, and guarantee against losses for the service, and the benefits likely to be derived from such services.
Mr. Bickards said the Mangere district was already very populous, and much greater growth was certain in the future. It was next door to Onehunga, and was in a very favourable position for an extension of the Transport Board's services.
Approval of the suggestion «for an inquiry was forthcoming from the chairman (Mr. P. M. Waters) and other members of the council, and it was unanimously resolved to set up a committee to investigate. This will consist of the chairman, the deputv-chairman (Mr. C. S. MeCallum), Mr. F. Kearslev, Mr. S. W. House -and Mt. Riekards, together with the county engineer (Mr. J. R. Page), and the county clerk (Mr. E. Ashcroft).
