FINAL GALLOPS.

WORK AT RICCARTON.

TOXEUMA'S FINE EFFORT.

OMEO SCHOOLS WELL,

(By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.")

CHRISTCHURCH, this day,

Conditions were unpleasant for training operations at Riccarton this morning, and it was very cold, while there were a few sliowers. The outside of the course proper was open for galloping, while the steeplechase fences on the course proper were available for jumpers. Radiate went once round, finishing up over the last half-mile in 565. Muff and Eiri covered six furlongs in 1.20 2-5, while their stablemate, Kakara, ran over the same ground in 1.19 2-5, doing the last half-mile nicely in 525. Kakara is a smart galloper, who should run well in the Cashmere Plate. Brumal sprinted half a mile up the back. . Battle Colours was staying on better than Subdivision at the end of six furlongs in 1.34. Battle Colours is coming on hi good style in his work. Lord Thornona and Painkiller ran five furlongs in I.s—a smart performance. Full Feather and Semper Paratus were associated ill a run over seven furlongs, which they covered in 1.30 2-5. There was not much between them at the finish. Kapuna was schooled at a fair pace over two rounds of the steeplechase fences, and gave an attractive exhibition of jumping. Aberi'eldy and Nightdew covered a mile in 1.48 3-5, while After Ten and (iold Mint occupied 1.30 3-5 for seven furlongs, Swiftray following the pair home over the last half-mile. , Dumblane and Shipshape were going well at 'the end of six furlongs in 1.21 2-5. Gustavo and Hounslow were companions in a useful spin over six furlongs. These two are in good fettle. Tarquiunius and Pharaoh covered five furlongs in 1.6 4-5. Arikinui, Rasouli and Rational 11. were in that order at the end of six furlongs in 1.20, but they were not out to make time. Pangolin jumped two hurdles up the back three times, giving a good display. Rapina and a mate sprinted half a mile ,up the back in 52 l-ss, while Ten and Portray were given a working gallop over six furlongs.

Staghunter, Tourist and Toxeuma jumped oil' at the seven-furlong post. Tourist dropped out in the straight, and Staghunter was overhauling Toxeuma at the winning post. The time was 1.33 2-s—an attractive effort. Lord Ranald, Wharncliffe and Kaikahu went once round, taking 1.57 for the last mile. Appeal and a- mate sprinted half a mile in 52 4-ss. Charmeuse beat Sleipner over five furlongs in 1.8 4-5. Snowfall strode out freely over a mile and a half by himself. Matu, Omeo and Corneroff started off for a school over the big fences, beginning at the sodwall along the back, while Parader followed them after a short interval. Matu refused at the first of the Kennels double, but subsequently cleared it, and went after the others. In the meantime Parader had joined the leading pair, but he lost his rider at the top of the straight. Corneroff and Omeo continued on together, going over the sodwall, post and rails and Kennels double twice. The pair gave a fine exhibition of jumping. Matu went on all right till he came to the Kennels double again, where ho was pulled up. Save for his effort at the double his exhibition was satisfactory, but his refusal at the double was disappointing. Last year, however, he did no better, but ran second in the Grand National Steeplechase. West Dome and Membo covered a mile in 1.49 3-5. Mountain Guide and Mangani were given a useful working gallop, finishing on at a sound pace over the last halfmile. . Airtight and Kulrange were schooled over the fences on the course proper. Airtight went once round, but Kulrange was pulled off before reaching the last two fences. Airtight runs down his fences, but is a bold and brilliant jumper and had too much pace for Kulrange. Mister Gamp and Llyn Dhu were schooled together over six flights of hurdles. Llyn Dhu gave the better showing, as he jumped every fence perfectly, while Mister Gamp got in too close to several of them. He did better as he went along. On Top, who carried a light boy, got to the end of six furlongs in 1.22, and did it well. Craigmore and Nukumai were companions over two rounds of the hurdles. They maintained a solid pace all the way and jumped well. Zippor and Rigolctto schooled over five flights of hurdles together. Zippor, who is a good jumper, was soon in front, and he remained there to the finish. Rigoletto's performance was much better than that of the other day, but it was far from good. Marco Polo was sent once round over the schooling country. He jumped well. Membo was beaten over a mile by Commentor. Arrivals. The Wingatui trainer, S. G. Ware, has arrived with Dumblane and Al Jolson. This morning's arrivals from the north included Aurora Borealis, Disrank, Royal Opera, Akbar, Black Mint, Royal Game, Diana's Lad and Deluge. Riding Engagements. D. O'Connor will ride Charmeuse in the Cashmere Plate, while Rapina, Rascal and Gold Mint are his other engagements on Tuesday. W. Cooper's mounts on Tuesday will be Kapuna in the Grand National, also Exide, Tractarian and Craigmore. E. Maokie will have the ride on French Fleet on Tuesday in the Enfield Steeplechase, while he will handle West Dome if he is started in the Jumpers' Flat Handicap. Topere- and The Raider, with welterweights up, were tried out over six furlongs. Topere finished in front, the full distance taking 1.21 2-5, and the last half 54 4-ss. Topere is coming on fast. The Clan galloped six furlongs in 1.24 2-5. He finished well. Airforce and Exide were schooled tggether over six flights of hurdles. It was a pretty piece of work. The pair galloped stride for stride all the way, and at every fence they rose and landed together. Exide has improved greatly in. his jumping.
