LOVERS SHOT DEAD.
Engaged to have been married in June, ;t widow and a, police sergeant were shot dead at Park Hill Bowling Club, Russell Street, Bolton. Sergeant Charles Greenwood, of Bolton force, called at the bowl-' ing pavilion, and asked for the widow, Mrs. Emma Brabbin, who was employed ' there. Mrs. Brabbin ■■ went out to see him. A few minutes later shots, rang out, and Mrs. Brabbin .reeled back, shot through the chest and eye. She lived only j a few minutes. |
Sergeant Greenwood was seen to walk away and raise his right hand. Two more shots rang, out, and he fell mortally wounded. He was in plain clothes, and he seenled quite composed when he inquired i for Mrs. Brabbin. It is stated that there j had been opposition to ttye proposed mar- : riagc. • I Sergeant Greenwood, who was due to retire from the borough force_ next year, is said to have bought a house in readinessfor their use after marriage. He was ] described by an official of the force as a capable, conscientous officer.
