MANUREWA TOWN BOARD.

The Manurewa Town Board held its fortnightly meeting- last evening, the chairman, Mr. G. Gallaher, presiding. Hall Improvements.—On the recommendation of the public hall committee it was decided to instal an electric water heater, an additional charge of 2/8 to be made for its use.

Street Light.—The Pi-esbyterian Church authorities wrote asking that the street light in front of tho ohurch property be moved a short distance towards the school property. Members-expressed the opinion that the church should meet some of the expense, and the chairman and Mr. Fawcett were deputed to investigate the matter.

Police Protection. —A letter was received from Mi-. J. N. Massey, M.P., advising that the Minister of Justice had promised to investigate the board's application for increased police protection.

Great South Road.—The Great South Road Beautifying Council wrote in reference to the stock problem as affecting traffic on the Great South Road, and suggested that the.' local bodies concerned advocate the removal. of the West field saleyarde to a more suitable location. In the course of'a general discussion Mr. C. A. Fawcett pointed out that the matter also involved the Papakura saleyards, at which lie considered there was nearly as much stock handled as at Westfield. "We are all talking in a whisper about this stock route," he said, "because we don't know what will happen over the allocation of the cost of the proposed new bridge at Otahuhu." The chairman considered the stock problem was an urgent one and warranted the attention of all local bodies on the road. The letter was received, no other action being taken.

Hill Road.—lt was decided to effect repairs to Hill Road in the vicinity of the school dental clinic, also to portions of the shoulders on the road.
