TAUMARUNUI NEWS.
Mies Phyllis Eady, of Auckland, is the guest of Mrs. A. Johnson, Taumarunui. Mr. A. Gorby is visiting Eotorua. Mr. D. Calderwood, of the Bank of Xew Zealand, has been transferred to Dargaville. Mr. W. H. Wackrow, of Rotorua, was a visitor to Taumarunui last week. A large number of friends of Miss R. Stevenson, who is to be married soon to Mr. M. Mansfield, of Auckland, and for- j merly of Taumarunui, gathered in the j Theatre Royal annexe on Wednesday evening, when they tendered her a most enjoyable kitchen evening. Mies Stevensou was the recipient of many useful gifts, and Mr. G. Hamill proposed the toast of the guest of honour. At the monthly meeting of the Taumarunui branch of the Plunket Society there were present: Mesdames King (chair), C'onlan, Boles, Edwards, McLeod, Holford, Richter, Godfrey, Park, Worrall and Mrs. Hutton, hon. secretary. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Moore, Winter, Barker and Johnston. Nurse Scanlon reported that the number of cases on the books was 299 babies and 40 older children.. The number of new cases received during the month was twelve. The nurse also reported that there was a good deal of sickness in Taumarunui and out-stations, influenzal colds being prevalent. Mesdames Godfrey and Leigh King were thanked for their efforts on behalf of the society in producing the operetta "Princess Chrysanthemum.' 5
