A statement, prepared by a neighbour was read. He said he saw Sorich cruelly beating a cow with a heavy stick. The. blows could be heard at least 00 yards away. A dog was chasing the calf and it had wandered on to the front path. Sorich jumped to the calf and dragged it into the..paddock by a rope tied round its neck. Mrs. Sorich had entreated her husband not to be cruel to the calf.
Mi , . Hunt: Jt seems to he quite a clear case. Constable Ilushtou said the cow h ß( j a cut about an inch long over its eye and there were heavy marks on its back and ribs. Sub-Inspector Slianalian: He won't get it if this is known, Mrs. Sorich said her husband had a family to keep and she made a plea for leniency for him. Mr. Hunt: It is difficult to know what to do. If I line the man there will bs an outcry from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, but he has a family to keep and I don't feel' like sending him to prison. In fining Sorich, Mr. Hunt added: Tell him that if this happens again lie will get six months' imprisonment. Mrs. Sprlch: It's no good my telling him.
