EGYPT AND BRITAIN.
New Minister to London Desires Speedy Conclusion. EEITISH UNION'S BEQUEST. (Received 10.30 a.m.) CAIRO, -July 13. Parliament lias adjourned for thiee "weeks. Hafis AM Pasha, Foreign Minister, has been appointed Minister in London subject to His Majesty's approval. It is understood that Aft.fi desires the speedy conclusion of the An<?lo-E<rypcian agreement. The British Union in Egypt, in a letter to the Prime Minister, emphasises that generous treatment or natives is invariably regarded as a sign or weakness, resulting in the replacement ot insult for respect towards British residents and visitors. The union urges that the majority of Egyptians do not desire the -withdrawal I or'"British protection because they do not trust one another. The union advises the appointment c-t a local advisory council to the Higii Commissioner (Sir Percy Loraine, appointed in August last year) because of his inexperience in Egyptian affairs so that future negotiations with Egypt h'a v oen i nil .a c^ean s-atl. Hahx A Sr. Pasha was trained for the medical profession at Cairo and Dublin University. His first important appointment vras leafier of tiie Etrjptian JrL-'l Crescent Mission :<> Tripoli in 1011. He was one of the original seven members of Zarhhl Pasha's "Ward." and attended i an. conference in London in 19-0. A member of the Egyptian Chamber of Deputies from 1926 to 19"25. he was in the latter voir appointed Foreign Minister in Paslia s ment wita Britain on the h*ile waters i and other affairs. As a doctor he is | eseentionaily prominent in Cairo, where ihe tak' J s a 'areat interest in the welfare Sof and in modern town i planning.
