SURPRISES AT TRENTHAM.

S T AGHU!\ITER'S SPRINT.

FIRST VICTORY SINCE 1927. PARLIAMENTARY TO TRUE BLOOD. THREE HORSES COMPLETE DOUBLES. HVE FAVOURITES FIRST PAST POST. (By Telegraph.—Special to the "Star.") WELLINGTON, Thursday. The winter meeting of the Wellington Racing Club continued to-day in cold and showery weathery, and in consequence., of. recent rain the track was soft. There was a fairly good attend-ance,-and the .public was treated to some good, racing.. During the day the sum of £38,572 was put through the machine, compared with £41,056 for the corresponding day last- season, a decrease of £2514. This made a total for the two days of £81,044, against £80,470 for the first two days of 1929, a decrease of £5426. The outstanding features of the day's sport were the surprise victory of Staghunter in the Members' Handicap (his first victory since 1027 at Ellerslie in the Foal Stakes), and double successes of Town Major, Coon Song and Hyniestrason. The last-named pair are trained by E. E. Hatch at Awapuni, who has [had four victories at the meeting. Snow Prince Unplaced. Lfrht rain set in before the Seatoun Handicap, for which Eon Acre was scratched. Town Major (£796) was best backed, with Snow Prince ( £735) and The Warden (£079) next in request. Disrank was slow to begin. Brilliant Light was first out, followed by Sr:ow Prince, Town Major and Singer, while Malahat was moving up fast. Passing the five furlongs Snow Prince was attended by Brilliant Light, Town Major, Malahat and Semper Paratus. Snow Prince was first into the straight from Semper Paratus, The Warden, Brilliant Light and Lucretia. Town Major came through on the rails, and stalling off Tahoma won by two lengths. Malahat was a similar distance away third, with The Warden, Brilliant Light, Disrank and Lucretia next. Still Another First-day Winner. Wyeford did not parade for the Mariri Steeplechase. Hymestrason > (£94S) was favourite, with Sir Moment ( £759) and Corneroff (£758) also well backed. Corneroff led over the first fence from Waitaunaha, Sir Moment and Taramoa, with Hymestrason last. High Heather 'baulked at the next, and passing the stands Sir Moment and Corneroff were just in front of Waitaunaha, Hymestrason and Taramoa. Along the back Hymestrason jumped to the front a? the sod wall, with Corneroff and Sir Moment next. There was no change across the top and into the straight, where Corneroff made another effort, but failed to reach Hymestrason by a length. Sir Moment was two lengths away, Avith Taramoa fourth and Waitaunaha fifth. Victory to Aucklander. Courageous was not saddled up for the Parliamentary Handicap. High Pitch, True Blood .and. Mendip were most in demand. True Blood and Marjoram got the worst of the start, the latter getting away badly. Blimp was the early leader from Black Duke, High Pitch, Best Friend, Balloon, Taboo and Mendip. Going past the mile post Taboo had run ■up to Blimp, the pair .being attended by Best Friend, True Blood, Black Duke, Black Mint and High Pitch. True Blood was soon in front, and led past the. half mile post from Taboo, Mendip, Black Duke and Marjoram. True Blood was first to turn for home from Taboo, Mendip, Black Duke.and Marjoram, and stalling off Mendip beat him by half a length, with Black Duke a length away, followed by Blimp, , High Pitch and" Taboo.

f. Favourite Finishes Last. I; Luminary ( £1256), Mount Shannon I) (£912), and Courageous (£703) were |i best backed for the High-weight, for * which Fallow was scratched.
