LATE SIR JOSEPH WARD.

MESSAGES FROM OVERSEAS. PRESIDENT HOOVER'S REGRET. WELLINGTON", this day. The Governor-General, Lord Bledieloe, has received the following message from President Hoover, of the United States: "I have learned, with great regret, of the death of Sir Joseph Ward, twice Prime Minister of New Zealand. May I express to you the sincere sympathy of the Government and people of the United States in the loss- which_ your country has sustained in the passing of this distinguished statesman." The Minister of External Affairs of the Irish Free State has cabled as follows: —"The Irish Free State desires to express profound regret at the death of Sir Joseph Ward, and offer sincere sympathy to New Zealand in the loss of a statesman who has rendered his country such signal service." A message has come from the Swedish Consul-General at Sydney as follows:— "On behalf of Sweden I beg to offer your country the most sincere and respectful sympathy in the loss of its distinguished statesman and citizen, Sir Joseph Ward." A message has been received from the joint managers of the New Zealand Rugby League football touring team at Bathurst, New South Wales, as follows:—"Our team greatly laments 'the passing of the Dominion's most eminent statesman and sympathises with the Governtynt and people."
