VIVISECTION IN GERMANY.

STRICTER REGULATIONS,

Lovers of animals in Germany have worked hard to accomplish an amendment of the laws governing vivisection, and annouce results which gratifying even if not quite all' that was hoped for, In future animals are to be chloroformed, save in cases where tins would absolutely interfere with the processes under observation. Oniy serious experiments, conducted by qualified professors and doctors, are permissible, and films are to be used in all cases possible. .. . Whereas such clauses are horrifying to the general public who have not been aware of the extent to which vivisection is practised by what are presumably not fully qualified medical inen, the fact that certain German and, in particular, Russian films supply extremely valuable evidence regarding animal subjects under vivisection is known to the few laymen who have been able to suppoit sight of the horrors depicted. Of great practical interest to the decoration-loving Germans is the resolve of the German Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals to award medals instead of certificates to hawkers and draymen whose horses or dogs are found to be in first-class condition. The dog, of course, is the one who pulls the handcart, man and dog power supplanting, the donkey in Germany.
