The attendance at the Test match ras surprisingly small, totalling only 1000 at lunch. McCabe's batting suggested that Australia -was playing for i win, rather than a draw. In Tate's first over after tlie interval Sradman raised 200 in 205 minutes. Copley, taking an excellent low catch, nded McCabe's bright display of 70 ninutes, during which he hit seven >oundaries. Bradman and Eichardson had many .nxious moments facing Tate, who was winging dangerously. Bradman stayed in the nineties for ialf an hour, and after 215 minutes •eached his fifth century of the tour. EEis score is the highest ever recorded in l Test at Nottingham, the previous best igure being Clem Hill's 80 in 1899. Eichardson waa in 25 minutes before ie scored. Australia still wanted 102 o win when Eobins took Bradman's off ;tump. Bradman had -played a solid nnings, giving only one chance. He )atted 260 minutes and hit ten )oundaries. The challengers' prospects ilumped when he was dismissed. Eichardson commenced to punish Hobins and Hammond, causing Tyldesley :o he brought hack. Fairfax stonevalled, but lost Eichardson when 133 -uns were still needed. Fairfax batted an hour and hit six fours. With Oldfield in, defeat faced Australia, The pair raised 300 for 320 minutes. Woolley bawled for the first time in the match at 30S. Batting with gpreat caution, Fairfax and Oldfield were together at tea, but without adding a run Oldfield went out in the first over after the adjournment to a neat catch in the slips. Grimmett. got a pair of spectacles, falling into the same trap as Oldfield. Ninety minutes were left when Hornij brook came in. He played two maidens. Fairfax, however, was brilliantly caught on the boundary. The crowd applauded the plucky effort to. save the game. Robins was then given the ball, and the match ended at 5.35, Hornibrook being caught at the wicket in his first over. Wall had • previously pulled Tyldesley for six, the only one of the match. The crowd rushed the pavilion, but with the assistance of the police the placers hurried inside.
