Asked in the House of Commons whether he was in a position to give any "further information regarding the situation in Malta, Dr. Shiels, UnderSecretary of State for the Colonies, said that owing to the state of public feeling in the island the elections were still being held in by the Governor in the exercise of his reserv ed powers. The question of what further measures should be taken to deal with the situation was under consideration by the British Government.
