TE AROHA NOTES.

SIR RUSSELL IN WORK. OFFERS FOR TAUMAI'S DAM. TE AROHA, Saturday. Mr. R. B. Hines' King Win lias now furnished into a very fine colt. He shows Both strength and quality, and judgino- by his general appearance, the action of his owner in taking the son of Kin<* Lu out of commission early this season has been amply justified. He will be raced as a. three-year ; old, and with ordinary luck may get on to the winning list before the next season has far advanced. .. For its 1929-30 meeting tho Te Aroha Jockey Club was third on the list of 18 leading country clubs for totalisator investments with £56,364 for two days. The two clubs which exceeded this amount were Waikato (four days) £113,207,' and Whangarei (three days) £05,592. , m AT, The performances of the Te Arohaowned St. Wairrigal at the Auckland meeting Avere very satisfactory to his owner. It is the St. Amans gelding's first season "on the turf, and his thirds in the Green Lane' and Tamaki Steeples were somewhat meritorious, inasmuch as he jumped the country well and showed at least fair staying capability. The triple winner Taumai was brought back to Waihou on Monday, and is little the worse for his Ellerslie efforts. In last week's notes mention was made as to the son of St. Amans having undergone but a light preparation, and this fact accounted for him not showing the same dash on the third day of the fixture that he exhibited on the Tuesday. Mr. E. Whitehead, owner of the Foremost mare, the dam of Taumai and Ah Wera, has this week received several offers for her. Taumai's winning performances have certainly brought her | into prominence. Gold Day is again executing light work on the local tracks.' He is still furnishing splendidly,, and next season should join the Day Comet winning ranks. Trainer J. Eva can be depended upon to turn him out in the right racing condition. Black Maire has shown distinct improvement of, late, inasmuch as he now moves quite soundly in his work. He should be racing again in the early spring months, when he may worthily take his place in good company. Both Glenison and Miss Albyn have grown and thickened up very considerably during the past few months. The former is a very smooth mover, on the tracks, and it is expected that next season she will, justify the expectations of her connections who consider that a good wintering is likely to bring about a big improvement in her racing form. Miss Albyn, who has been longer in striking form, also looks like making good in the future. The fact of Indolent holding his condition so well of late is deemed very satisfactory to the A. Cox stable, as for a long time it was found very difficult to bring into a robust state. The General Latour gelding handles soft going very well, so may be seen out under silk before the winter has much further advanced. Trainer J. H. Wallace has recommissioned Sir Russell, who has built up well during his respite from work. The Archiestown gelding paid his way well this season, and may be a better horse in the next racing term. The Weathervane—Panoma filly in J. Wallace's team is still on the small side. She possesses speed, and relishes her work. Under lightweights this South-ern-bred filly '. may prove smart next spring. • , - .»■'•-. Ah Wera is still running out, but as he does .not sh<tw any appearance .of unsoundness, may soon be put into work again. With ordinary luck there is no reasQn why he should not be as good a performer as his full brother, Taumai, as he is a beautiful jumper and has a line dash of speed.
