PARKING AND TRANSPORT.
11l Friday's paper Mr. D. Robertson, assistant-general manager of the Farmers! Trading Company, stated liis opinion in favour of prohibition of parking in the city and the laying of tram rails in Albert Street. The laying of trams in Hobson Street has not eo far appeared to remove the wooden residences and unsightly vacant sections that are a feature of this thoroughfare. If the ratepayers have a vote on the question of rails in Albert Street it is quite likely they will jib at the expense and argue that as the rails are already laid in Hobson Street and so little use is made of them why not utilise them instead of the costly scheme of laying others in Albeit Street? Then if Queen Street is congested at rush l}ours why not put in a couple of loops off the main line outside the Civic Square where the road has been widened for that purpose? The cars could then stand on these side lines until filled and no obstruction would take place on the main line. The trouble now is because ckrs that cut off up Wellesley Street at rush hours have not the opportunity to wait until they get a load, and consequently go empty. The prohibition of parking in the city will harm all classes of business, for country folk will not then bother to come into the city or pay the expense of garaging their cars, but will content themselves with doing their shopping in the suburban areas, where these restrictions will not be enforced. HAROLD SCHMIDT. '
