NORTHCOTE BEAT POINT.
PROTEST TO BE CONSIDERED.
The defeat of Point Chevalier, leaders in tho senior B grade competition, by Northcote was indeed a big surprise on Saturday last, when the fifth series of matches was played. Although the margin, 6 points to 2, was small, Northcote fully deserved their victory. The champions are far from being the good side of last season, and more defeats may bo chronicled before the round closes.
It is understood that the Auckland Rugby League are in receipt of a protest from Point Chevalier. The details are not available as the judicial committee did not discuss the question last evening.
Otahuhu ran up 20 points against Richmond, who failed to score. 'The winners played fine- football, and promise, to take a band in deoidhig the grade honours. ...
In a well-contested game-Mangere defeated Mount Albert .by. 12 .points to 8. Tho Maoris had .too. much weight for their moro youthful opponents. A feature of Mnngerc's win was tho splendid play of Jack Wilson. Tho centro was in brilliant form and repeatedly beat tho, defenco . with .clover side.-stopping runs. His try was a beautiful effort.
Paul also played splendidly, using his pace to good advantage. The winger blended nicely with Wilson on attack. Rewhia got through a lot of . useful work. He has only to improve his handling to become a fine player. L. Wilson was a disappointment on the wing. He dropped simple transfers and was°weak on defence. Slavih was prominent, even with limited opportunities.
The forwards were superior in scrum work. Somerville was most successful as hooker, besides shining in the loose. W. Roberts and Roper Roberts also played well. Ba«mall was the best of the Mount Albert backs. Mattson and Martin Were also prominent. A <*ood crowd at Sturgess Park saw Otahuhu outclass Richmond. The local thirteen were always superior, and revealed some nice movements. G. Phillip played a sound game at full-back. He was most prominent in opening play lor the three-quarters. Farrell did a lot of useful work at centre, and combined well with Matson. The latter is a promising player. W. Phillip -scored a nice ttrv The five-eighths, Eustace and Hart, played clever football. The former-is dangerous near the line. W. Hart and R Phillip were the. best forwards. Conway, Whye and Harris gave excellent support. •
