SOUTH ISLAND TEAM.

FORMIDABLE SIDE CHOSEN,

(By BLACKWELL.)

It can be said without any hesitation at this juncture that. the South Island side, chosen for the inter-island match on June 14/ is a better all-round force than that which so signally captured the laurels last season, in spite of the unfortunate defection of Blazey, who, however, may yet sufficiently recover from his injury to merit further consideration. For the nonce, his place has been won bv a tall, sturdy custodian in W. 1 alaniountain (12st 21b), who has risen creditably in Christchurch football this season, and has qualified for representative honours for the first time. He is reputed to be a fine kicker and a good tackier. Bond is a winger who has been seen at Carlaw Park. He is said to have developed considerably as a defensive plaver, while he has lost none of his scoring brilliance. T. McKenzie (list 101b), who won recognition for his display at centre for the Possibles, rose from junior this year and has a temperament for big play. His other winger is the Otago man H. Pearce (list 81b), who was outstanding in the trial. He is one of the most promising backs in the South. Associated with Dodds (10st 101b), the clever West Coast five-eighths, will be J. Amos Tl3st 81b), the ex-Auck-land, Canterbury, Worth and > South Islands representative. Amos, it is said, has improved out .of all knowledge. These two insides, fed by the Otago half, McKewen (lOst), may be expected to keep the North Island busy and will miss little on defence.

, The giants of last year's Southern pack will be seen in action —O'Brien (13st 61b), Calder (13st 111b) and Griffiths. (12st 101b), of the West Coast, with Dobbs (12st 101b), of Canterbury, and A. Townsend (12st 81b), Otago, Auckland and New Zealand hooker, and Eckhoff (13st 101b), the versatile breakaway, also of Otago. The North Island forwards will need all their resources to hold this heavy and fast set, well known for its prowess in the tight or loose. With the pace on, South Island will be hard to beat. The named emergencies are Dougan, the clever West Coast back, and Hicks, of Otago, both of whom have been prominent in representative play.

Curtain-Raiser Suggestions. ~ Blazey, Pahi (Canterbury half), Lynsky and Palgar (Canterbury) and Pollock (Otago) might make interesting appearances in the trial to precede the big game. Simons, of Wellington, and P. Skelton, Melntyre, Olliff, Mincham, Prentice, Brady, Hassan, T. O'Leary, Carter, Grogan, Hill, S. Watene, of Auckland, Cunningham, Hamilton, Parkes and Whitelaw, of Northland, and N. Williams, of South Auckland, are among the backs which the public would like to,see out on that occasion; Good forwards such as Hobbs, Casey, Pascoe, Prancis, Jones, McCarthney, Stevens, Barchard, Hertsell and Berghan (Northland), and Quinn and Jones (South Auckland) are also available. RICHMOND CLUB. PRESENTATION OP TROPHIES. The Richmond Rovers Football Club held a very successful picture night at the Adelphi Theatre, Grey Lynn. The function was really to allow Mr. Holdsworth to present caps, cups, and trophies won by the club last season. The various winners wei;e: —Sixth BB team, Myers Cup and Miliclch Cup and caps; sixth A team, caps; fifth team, Endean Shield and caps; third open team, Hayward Shield and caps. The Walker Shield was won by both sixth BB and fifth grade teams. Medals presented by Mr. Miliclch were won by S. Dunn and A. Swnnberg (third Intermediate team) and T. Milicich and N. Bickerton (sixth BB team). The Davis Shield, open tq all clubs under the jurisdiction of the A.R.L., was again won by the Richmond Club with a good margin of points. '
