THE MERIT OF MOORE.
The cuttings of the Moore controversy have just leached me. I was concerned in my'article not with popularity but. with art, ti vastly different thing. , l stated the opinions of Moore"e admirers and of his detractors. My own grievance is not that he took the airs but" that they were mutilated to fit his weaker words. To those who know the originals with their Gaelic words, or with these words translated, Moore's effort* seem as paste to diamonds. This is my last word on the subject, for, if folk prefer imitations, it would take a more leisured pen than mine to convince, them that, as is proclaimed by the world of scholars, the originals, in.every way, do the country moro honour.
