SURVEY TO MANGONUI.
SIR JULIUS VOGEtL'S PLANS* RAILWAY TO THE NORTH. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") RUSSELL, this day* When Sir Julius Vogel mapped out his railway policy many years ago provision was made for a survey from Wellington, right through to Mangonui in the Fa* North. That siich a survey had been made was told to the Hon. G. .Forbes, Minister of Lands, when he vis* ited the township of Mangonui yes* terday. The Minister was requested to havtf the time of the arrival of the express from Auckland to Otiria altered front 5 p.m. to 4 p.m. It was explained, that Otiria was CO miles by road, and if the express could be made to arrive an houf earlier it would greatly facilitate the handling of mails and would be of in* estimable benefit to northern settlers. "To call it an express is a joke," Mr. H. M. Rushworth, member for the! district. He assured Mr. Forbes that the train could be speeded up without, any trouble and with advantage to fill concerned. .
