ORIGINAL ETCHINGS.

IXTERESTIXG EXHIBITS An exhibition of very interesting original etchings, lithographs, engravings and water colours was opened yesterday in rooms in the British Insurance Buildings, Shortland Street. This collection should make an appeal to the Auckland public, containing, as it does, original etchings by such well-known names as Xorman Lindsay, Whistler, Andersen, Washington, Robins, Smart and Lacey, while the water colours, etchings, lithographs and pencil drawings by J. C. Goodchikl, of Adelaide, contain attractive work. Among the Xorman Lindsay etchings are several of his drawings of nude women, about which so much controversy has raged in Australia. Perhaps the one depicting the thoughts of a stricken deer will appear most to lovers of animals, while iiis power of expressing grossness through the female figure is seen in several examples. On. the other side of art an etched drawing of an out-of-work actor, "''The Fallen Star," by E. H. Lacey. is full of pathos. ;In the landscapes an etching by Alan j Gynne Jones, of a cold winter day in England, is brightly lighted. The water | colours bv J. C. Good child contain some j pleasing work, one of "House on the ! Props," '"Polpcrro, Cornwall," and another of snow banked up against an old bridge are beautiful m tones. "The Moorings, Venice," is verv sood. A larie pen and ink of ! "Rome! Xow and Then" by Goodchikl is also a picture that attracts. Ibe exhibition will be carried on for the next i fourteen days.
