DIFFICULT TO EXPLAIN.
ngahauranga gorge crash IX QUE ST OX MAX AXD WIFE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLIXGTOX, Wednesday. At the inquest concerning the deaths of Mr. and Mrs. Cook, who were killed in a collision between cars in the Xgaliauranga Gorge on April 13, evidence was given by Arthur Coffin, a storeman, that he and three others were driving up
the gorge at about 15 miles an hour. A car driven by A. E. Storey passed him from behind at 20 miles an hour, and at the same time he saw the Cooks' car approaching round the bend on its lefthand side. The two cars crashed, they and his being abreast at the time. The Cooks' car crossed the road and fell into the creek. Storey was on his wrong side. He was surprised to see the car go over the bank, because he thought all that should have happened was a crumpled mudguard. It appeared that a glancing blow was struck. Another -witness said he could not see any explanation of the tragedy in the actual impact. Prompt braking would have avoided it. The hearing was adjourned.
