AFTER-CHRISTMAS VACATION
SUPPORT FOR SCHEME.
WOU£D REDUCE SICKNESS.
/ , / (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.),
HAMILTON, Tuesday.
Sir Thomas Sidey's-proposal to alter the summer vacation- was supported by Mr. F. W. Platts, S.M„, when speaking at the gathering of the new Otago Club at Hamilton., Mr. Platts said that the suggestion to commence the-Christ-mas holidays, a month later than at present had;not yet aroused such severe criticism as the daylight saving scheme.
To choose the finest and warmest weather for the holidays, said ,Mr. Platts, seemed just as sensible as day ; light saving. He thought that a month's postponement would nearly sure finer weather than was usual' at Christmas. The proposed change would save children from exposure to sickness and close confinement in schoolrooms during the hottest month of the year. He felt sure that if everyone thought seriously of the question the desired reform would be brought about.
