STRAND THEATRE.
"The Mighty," the Paramount picture which commences a season at the Strand Theatre to-day, presents the striking story of a man of the underworld, a bora gunman whose prowess during the war brings him back a national hero, accepted and held by society against his wishes. George Bancroft has the leading role' supported by Esther Ralston, Warner Oland, Raymond Hatton, 0. P. Heggi 8 and Dorothy Revier. Bancroft plav g the role of the returned hero of the war. After he has been so firmly entrenched in the graces of the underworld, he gathers his gang and prepare# to make a haul that will put him on easy street for life. Here comes the great conflict of emotions. Shall he cast his lot with his old gang or with the new "gang"? The answer is dra. matically shown in one of the most thrilling scenes ever recorded on the screen. ROXY THEATRE. "Peacock Alley" is the main attraction at the Roxy Theatre. The vivacious Mae Murray is the leading player, and of outstanding interest are the gorgeou» costumes and fashion plate displays. The story is one of American society life and much of the film is in natural colour, which brings the presentation well out of the ordinary. Mae Murray's voice is heard to advantage and she fe seen also in some clever dances. Thii unique special feature should have a successful season. In addition to the main picture there will be a programme of interesting' talking featurettes. MUNICIPAL CONCERT. The next concert by the Municipal Band will be held in the Town on Saturday next. New numbers to be played are the overture "Phedre" (Massenet) two favourite pieces by Handel, Air from "Rinaldo" and the Minuet from "Samson," Marche Indienne (Sellenick) "Serenade D'Armour" (Franz von Blon)' "The Parade of the Tin Soldiers" (Jesse)! and "Robert Bruce," a grand selection on Scotch melodies. The suite "In & Lover's Garden" will by request be repeated. Special instrumental eolos will be played by Mr. McLennan, flute, and Mr. Davies, cornet. Mr. Wilfrid Scott, baritone, will be the vocalist, with Mrs. Scott at the . piano. Booking arrangements are advertised. HIS MAJESTY'S. "Lady Be Good" is drawing good attendances to His Majesty's Theatre the season of musical comedy at popu' lar prices proving popular. The plot deals with a young girl and her brother who get into financial difficulties and are compelled to abandon their ancestral home. Camping in a public thoroughfare they are assisted in various way by a tramp, who creates much laughter. Mr. Freddie Forbes and Miss Catherine Stewart have the leading roles "Sunny" will be staged on Saturday! the first performance being in the after, noon. WIRTH'S CIRCUS. Children who have not visited Wirth'a Circus at the Old Dock site should hurry up. To-morrow night will be the final performance. There have been good attendances throughout the season. Some splendid acts are in the programme and the performing animals are not the least interesting, especially the bears. The menagerie is an education in itself and parents should not neglect giving their children a treat. The circus throughout the years has always been the delight of the juveniles.*
LITTLE THEATRE,
The members' preferential plan for Tlie Man They Buried," Karen Bramson's play to be produced by the Auckland Little Theatre Society, opens next Friday at Lewis Eady, Ltd. The work is a very serious one, but the authoress treats it skilfully and lightly. There are 22 speaking parts and eight scenes in the production.
