PROVINCIAL NEWS.
WHAHfrAHEI. The Railway Department is to be asked to increase the parking accommodation at Whangarei station. At a meeting of the Borough Council complaint was made of the approach being far too narrow, and it was urged that an additional piece of land should be taken in to make the station entrance more convenient and imposing. WAIHI.
An inspection of the Waihi Girl Guides was made on Friday evening by the district commissioner, Mrs. S. Tombs, o£ Hamilton. There was also present Captain F. K. Emmott. of the First Paeroa Company of Girl Guides. At the conclusion of the parade, the commissioner congratulated the company upon its smart appearance and general efficiency. The annual meeting of the company was held later in the evening, the commissioner presiding. A petition,, signed by the members of the company, was read, asking the captain. Miss T. Turner, to reconsider her resignation, and expressing their highest regard and appreciattlon of her services in their behalf. Miss Turner, however, intimated that, -whilst she fully appreciated the expression of goodv 111,- she regretted that she had definitely decided to withdraw. The following officers were appointed for the ensuing year: — President. the Mayoress, Mrs. W. M. Wallnutt: vice-presi-dent, Mrs. W. T. Moyes: committee. Mesdam6s. Wayne, Tanner, Cullen, Feather. B. Roberts, Turner. Carter, C. Dunstan, Hancock and Wilson : Mrs. Wayne was appointed chairman and Mrs. Hancock secretary and treasurer.
