LITTLE BUSINESS DOING. RATES FAIRLY STABLE. Business on the local Stock Exchange is quiet, and only a few sales have been finalised since the ''Star's mam edition went to press yesterday. Quotations, however, are fairly stable", and the weakness in Australian banks and other securities is less pronounced. . At this morning's call Commercials eased a fraction with a sale first at £1 2/1, and another at £1 2/, after which buyers remained at £1 1/11. Commercial preference were 1/ up, with buyers at £6 8/. English and Scottish showed 1/ advance, with buyers at £6 7/. New Zealand Nationals dropped back again to buyers £5 17/. and New South Wales eased to buyers £39 5/. Electrolytic Zinc preference lost a little ground, with buyers at £1 6/3, i but Australian Glass brought higher offers to buy at £2 3/. In Government stocks 4%'s firmed with buyers at £9/ 15/. a line of 1939 issue being offered at £98. There was a fair inquiry for municipal debentures. At the Noon Call. A few fresh sales were recorded at the noon call, one being of Huddart-Parker. the first local transaction since October. This scrip had weakened further in the last week, and changed hands at £1 14/6. The sale in October was at £2 3/6, the difference being in accord with the general depreciation in Australian securities since that date. At the noon call late quotations geuerally held with a good demand in the financial and coal sections. A buyer came forward for Farmers' Auctioneering, offering £3 10/ for £5 shares. Interest Rates. The return to the investor on his outlay, based upon the latest dividends and in the case of loans and. debentures upon redemption at maturitv works out as follows for the latest sales:— PER PER ANNUM. £ s.
