Y.W.C.A. NEWS.
The regular meeting of the board of directors of the Y.W.C.A. was held nn Friday morning. In the absence of Mrs. J. A. Bradstreet, Mrs. J. C. Dickinson presided and spoke of the loss the board had sustained in the death of Mrs. E. G. Cole. A vote of sympathy was also passed to Mrs. Garrard (past president) in the loss.of her husband, Mr. C. W. Garrard. Miss r Audrev McCrea - gave a comprehensive report of the findings and discussion at tlie Girl Citizen Conference, and .Miss Marie James told of the new friendships made and interesting projects dealt with at the conference. The board passed votes of thanks to the Wellington and Christchurch Associations for their generous hospitality to Auckland's girl delegates when en route to and from the conference. Mrs. Chas. Smith, Mrs. A. D. Campbell, Mrs. N. S. Benfell, Misses Fleming and Begg were appointed * delegates to the National" Council of Women for next year. Miss Begg reported that next week had been set apart for a finance drive, and it is hoped that members and friends would help in this much needed work. Club activities had started well, and much enthusiasm is* being displayed. Folders describing the work of the association, its clubs and classes, had been issued and distributed to several hundred girls. Lunch rooms were being; visited, and the girls had responded well to the general invitation to visit the association building. Miss Begg paid high tribute to the managers of firms visited, who had without exception welcomed the visits, and helped considerably the work done. An industrial study group is being formed under the leadership of Miss Bentham, M.A. The gymnasium demonstration had been highly successful, and girls are enrolling every day for the various physical training classes. Miss Begg also reported that Miss N. Morton, of Wellington, was now beginning her three months' training in the Y.W.C.A. work, and that Miss Mildred Allsop was another trainee who would begin here after Easter. Senior club girls are making arrangements for their Easter conference to be held at Plimmerton, and a large Easter camp for girls under 20 would be held at Blockhouse Bay Holiday House. Before the meeting closed Mrs. Dickinson urged members" to take a practical interest in the appeal for an obstetrical chair at Otago University.
