OBSTETRICAL APPEAL.

The opening meeting of the St. John Methodist Woman's Guild, Ponsonby for this year was held in the school hall, Ponsonby Road, yesterday afternoon. The Rev. A. Mitcheel presided. Dr. Buckley Turknigton made a stirring appeal for the urgent need of a "Chair of Obstetrics"' (motherhood).

A meeting was held at the home of Mrs. H. B. Morton. One Tree Hill, yesterday, in connection with the obstetrical appeal. .Mrs. J. B. Macfarlane presided, and Dr. Hilda Norther oft addressed the meeting. It was decided to organise One Tree Hill as a oranch of Epsom, and a sub-committee was set up to canvass the district. Among those who were present were:—Mesdames 11. B. Morton, J. B. Macfarlane, J. McIvenzie, H. Iv. Jones, Davenport, b. Murphv, Newman, K. D. Ball, Petrie. J. E. Wilson", C. H. Fort, Misses Ernest and D. Morton. Many apologies and offers to help were received.

A public meeting was held in the St. Cuthbert's Mission Hall, Faulder Avenue, West End. last evening, Mrs. W. A. Cooke presiding. Dr. Buckley Turkington, in an address, gave the medical side for the need of a Chair of Obstetrics and Miss Basten spoke on the practical side. ' Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Blanko, Mrs. Henderson, Mrs. Jackson were appointed a nucleus of a sub-committee to be set up with power to add to their number for the canvassing of particular areas. Mrs. W. J. Jones consented to act as convener and secretary.

The Papatoetoe Committee to carry out a canvass for funds in aid of the obstetrical appeal was formed at a meetinc held in the Station Road Presbyterian Hall. Papatoetoe, on Monday afternoon. Mrs. A. W. Hall was convener, and Mrs. J. C. Bryant was elected president. Representatives of the Auckland City Central Committee formed for the purposes of the appeal. Mrs. C. E. Maguire and Lady Carrick Robertson (secretary) stated that Papatoetoe's proportion on a population basis would be £50. Twenty ladies were i elected to a. committee, and the district was zoned for a house-to-house canvass. Mrs. W. T. S. Wilson was elected secretarv.
