FIRE AT WAIUKU.
A TIMELY DISCOVERY. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WAIUKU, this day. At G. 30 011 Tuesday evening there was an outbreak of fire in Mr. Fisher's mercery shop at the corner of Bowen and Queen Streets, Waiuku. Mr. S. E. Aldred, who was residing at the hotel, saw smoke issuing from the shop. He broke the door down and removed clothing from the counters. Mr. A. Makgill then arrived with a fire extinguisher, and, with the help of a bucket brigade, the. fire was subdued. The fire brigade was quickly on the scene. Little damage was done to the building, but the stock was badly damaged by smoke and water. The building, which is owned by Mr. Rossiter, and also the stock were insured in Lloyds. HOUSE AT OHURA LOST. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) TAUMARUNUI, Tuesday. Fire at Olrara last night destroyed a five-roomed house owned by Mr. J. McCalenghan and used by Mr. A. Towler as an extension of a boardinghouse. Nothing was saved.
