PIGEON FLYING.
AUCKLAND SOCIETY. The above society held its first race of the second series for young birds on Saturday from Huntly. The birds were liberated by the stationmaster at 11.4S a.m., and the winning bird homed to Messrs. Bright and Turner's loft at 1.15 p.m. Mr. Goodwin was second. Both of these flyers were about 17 minutes ahead of the balance of the competitors, a good performance. The results are:— Messrs. WAITEMATA CLUB. The newly-formed Waitemata ' Homing Pigeon Society contested their first young bird race from Huntly, an airline distance of 54 miles, a special prize being donated by the secretary for this race. The birds were liberated by Mr. L. Yolty at 11.57 a.m., and the winning bird, Mr. H. B. Crowliurst's white hen White Trail, landed at its loft in Stanley Bay at 1.25 p.m., credited with a. velocity of 1126.2 yds per minute. Fifty-two birds competed. Detailed results:— Mr. 11. E. The North Shore Pigeon Club contested the second race of their second young bird series from Te Kuiti, an airline distance of S6 miles. The birds were liberated in fine weather, a fast fly and a close finish resulting. Messrs. Roman and Chamber's' r "c c Sir Blackwood proved to be the winner, credited with a velocity of 1139.2 yds per minute. Fify-four birds, representing seven lofts, competed.. Results :— Messrs. Next week the club will contest a race from Te Kuiti for a special trophy. ONEHUNGA CLUB. The. Onehunga Club flew their ninth annual Derby race from Palmerston North (242 miles airline).
