LABOUR REPRESENTATION.
AUCKLAND COMMITTEE MEETS
ADDRESS BY QUEEN-SLANDER.
Conditions which led up to the defeat of the Labour Government in Queensland, and the position of affairs there now were explained at the annual meeting of the Auckland Labour Representation Committee on Wednesday night, by Mr. James Stopford, M.L.A., who was Minister of Home Affairs in the last Queensland Labour Goyernment. The president, Mr. B. Martin, presided. The annual report stated that despite general depression tiie finances of the committee were in a satisfactory condition. The report also said that 33 unions and 20 branches of the party were now affiliated, and the total membership was over 12,000.
The situation in Samoa was considered by the delegates and the following resolution was carried: —"That this meeting enters an emphatic protest against the Government's treatment of the natives of Samoa, and asks for the withdrawal of the naval and military forces recently sent to that country."
•' Officers were elected as follow:—President, Mr. D. Wilson; vice-president, Mr. W. T. Anderton; executive committee, Mr. B. Martin, Mr. W. F. Schramm, Mrs. E. W. Moore, Mr. T. Kelly, Mr. J. Purtell; trustees, Mr H. Campbell, Mr. E. J. Phelan; auditor, Mr. E. Gill.
