IN STATE OF SIEGE.
RAILWAY UNION'S OFFICE.
COUNCILLORS .TURNED AWAY,
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
WELLINGTON, this day,
It is reported that another attempt was made yesterday morning by the four executive councillors allegedly concerned in Wednesday's incident to enter the head office of the Locomotive Engineers, Firemens and Cleaners' Association, in Bowen Street. Locked doors and drawn blinds confronted the callers, whose summons for admittance was refused by the acting-general secretary, Mr. J. A. Veitch. The visitors later withdrew.
To all intents and purposes the office remains in a state of siege, with Mr. Veitch holding tiie fort. The president of the association, Mr. F. J. Lewin, was telegraphed for yesterday, and arrangements for necessary leave having been made, he was expected to arrive in Wellington from Palmerston North to-day.
The ballot for the election of the new executive closes to-day, and the result is expected within a few days. There are 2000 members of the association, and the preferential system of voting is employed. It is understood that a sealed ballot-box, which has been kept at headquarters for convenience, will be removed to the city office of the association's auditors after the close of the poll.
