OTAHUHU METHODISTS.
Social gatherings to initiate a campaign for £100 to carry out renovations and refurnishings to the Methodist parsonage at Otahuhu were held in the Otahuhu circuit on Wednesday and Thursday evenings. On Wednesday evening there was a good attendance at the Papatoetoe Methodist Church Hall, when Mr. A. Trenwith, who attendeil the Methodist Conference, submitted a scheme of improvements and delivered a brief address on the work of the conference. It was afterwards left to the local church workers to arrange a canvass of the district. During the evening the Rev. J. H. Haddon, head Maori missionary in the Home Missionary Department, spoke briefly on the work among the Maoris and expressed a regret that the financial support was less proportionately than that given by the Solomon Islanders to the work in the foreign field. Vocal solos were given by Misses M. de Luen and K. Bryant and Mrs. John Sanderson. At the Memorial Methodist Church last evening it was also decided to arrange a district canvass in connection with the parsonage improvements. Vocal items were given by Misses Jean Hunter and Doris Trenwith, Mrs. Christini and Messrs. Venables and Howard Hunter. The Rev. F. R. Greenwood, who has been minister in the circuit for the past five years, presided at both gatherings. It was stated that his successor, the Rev. W. Gatman, of Milton, would commence his duties in the Otahuhu circuit the third Sunday in April. Mr. Gatman has been at Milton for the past four years and was in charge of the Henderson circuit about twelve years ago.
