FAIR DEMAND FOR APPLES. 7 :matoes plentiful. large vegetable supplies. The market is over supplied with inferior pears. There is no sale for this kind, but the better grades are selling freely. There is a fair demand for good quality apples, but windfalls and those of lower quality cannot find a market. There are a fair number of the latter variety coming in to the saiee. Out-door grapes from Te Kauwhata and other places are coining forward in larger numbers. It is expected that the season will be a fairly good one. Tomatoes are plentiful. There ar-e ample local stocks to hand, and as well, supplies are beginning to arrive from Hawke's Bay. Ruling values are: — Tears.—Louis Bon, 8/ to 11/6; Bon Chretiens., 8/ to 9/(5; seconds and mediums, 5/2 to 7/6; Bosc, Caprimont, Superfine, cooking and others, 3/ to of. Apples: Gravenstein, choice, coloured, 5/ to 7/6; medium and small, 5/ to 4/6; Cox's Orange, 6/ to 9/; Albany Beauty, 4/ to 7/; Delicious, choice, 6/ to 8/; cookers and others/2/ to 4/6. Tomatoes: No. 1, 3/ to 5/; smooth, 5/ to 6/; email and mediums, 2/ to 3/. Peaches: Choice coloured, 6/2 to 7/6; cookers and others,. 3/ to 3/6. Grapes: Hamburg, 9d to 1/; W2's, 6d to 8d; Column's, 1/2 to 1/10; out-doors (Te Kauwhata and others), 8/6 to 11/. Cape gooseberries, 5%d to 6Vzd; Lemons: Local, 7/ to 15/. Passions: 3/ to 5/. Oranges: Californian, 32/ to 42/. Bananas: Ripe, No. l's, 22/ to 24/; mediums, 15/ to 18/; No. 2's, 12/. . Over Supply of Vegetables. In the vegetable section, there is a general over-supply.. Quantities available have been uniformly heavy all this summer, and this week, are particularly so. Onions, kumaras, cabbage, green peas, beans and lettuce are especially plentiful. Cauliflowers and onions are beginning to come in from Ohakune, and prices show a falling, tendency. Cucumbers alone among the vegetables show signs of lessening in supply, and values are rising in sympathy. Present prices ar-e:—■ Potatoes, 2/6 to 4/9 bag; onions, 1/6 to 2/3; kumaras, Id to IJ/4dl J /4d lb; cabbage, 1/6 to 3/6 sack; cauliflower, 4/ to 9/; swedes, 1/6 to 2/6 bat;; pumpkins, 3/ to 5/ cwt; green peas, 3/ to 7/ bag; beans, 2/ to 5/; lettuce, 1/ to 3/6 case; cucumbers, 2/ to 7/6 dozen; vegetable marrows, 1/ to 2/; water 1/ to 3/6 each; rock melons, 3d to 1/3 each; cabbage (on benches), 9d to 1/9 dozen; celery, 6d to 3/6 bundle; rhubarb, 1/ dozen; spinach, 1/; pumpkins, 3d to 1/ eachj radish, 6d to 1/ dozen; spring onions, 3d to 1/ bundle; carrots, parsnips, beet and turnips, 6d to 10d dozen. I Eggs 'and Butter. Egg prices ' have not charig«l. There is' the same fair demand for -medium supplies available. Current prices for first quality hen eggs are:—Special grade, 2/1 dozen; A grade, 2/; B grade, 1/9. Duck esge, special grade, 1/11 dozen; B grade, 1/10; B grade, 1/8. Farmers' butter is selling from 1/ to 1/3 a lb. Supplies are short, and there is a good demand.. Poultry. At to-day's auctions the supply of poultry was heavy, and the demand was keen: for table birds. The prices paid were about level. Selling rates were as follow:—Cockerels, heavy breeds, prime, 5/6 to 7/6 each; not prime, .3/6 up; light breeds, prime, 2/9 to 3/; not prime, 1/6 up; fat roosters, heavy breeds, prime, 2/ to 2/6; light breeds, 1/6 to 2/; Hens, heavy breeds, 2/6 to 3/6; light breeds, 1/9 to 2/6; pullets, heavy breeds, best, 6/ to 7/; smaller, 2/ up; light breeds, best, 6/ to 7/; smaller, 2/ up; drakes (young), prime, 3/ to 3/0: smaller, 2/ up; ducks, young, 3/ to 3/G; old, 1/6 to 2/; drakes, old, 1/6 to 2/.
