ItEFEREES' MEETING. YEAR OF USEFUL SERVICE. With a membership of 43 the Referees' Association of the A.F.A. last season controlled several hundred games, some members taking as many as three per Saturday. These striking figures v/ere revealed last-night at the annual meeting of the association held; in the Y.M,C.A., over which Mr. J. J. Wright presided. There was a representative attendance of members, and the meeting was characterised by keenness for the incoming season and candour in debate. The annual report regretted a falling off in the membership, owing to translations from the district and commented on the standard of refereeing, it being stated that Auckland led the Dominion in the number of knights of the whistle granted New Zealand badges. During the year the secretary of the association, Mr. F. R. Wilson, resigned office, and the re- r port paid a well-deserved tribute to the indefatigable services that Mr. Wilson had rendered. Thanks were also extended to the Y.M.C.A. for accommodation for weekly meetings. ! The financial statement submitted by the treasurer, Mr. J. Ball, showed a credit balance at the end of the year, which, though small, was satisfactory in view of the fact that no subsidy had been received from the A.F.A.

The election of office-bearers resulted ( as follows:—Patron, Mr. Ernest Davis; president, Mr*. J. J. Wright; ten vicepresidents; ' management • committee, Messrs. A. J. Gaily, F. R. Wilson, E. H. The matter of a,'travelling rep. from each of the four centres to the N.Z.R.A. meetings was left to the management committee. , The meeting decided" to inaugurate life membershipof the Referees' Association, and Messrs.
