j AUCKLAND DISTRICT REPORTS. The Director of the Horticulture Division of the Department of Agriculture has received the following reports .from his officers regarding orchard and marketing conditions at the end of January: Auckland;— Apples: Early varieties now being gathered and crops are heavy. Delicioue have a good average crop. Lemons are now recovering from the effects of frosts, and the crop will be an average one. Oranges, Poorman ■ are promising well. Peaches: Early mid-season varieties disappointing. Paragons are heavy. Pears: Bon Chretien, light; Packham's Triumph, heavy; with other vaotiee about average crops. Plums: Crops : heavy. Plums (Japanese): Very heavy. Prices for choice fruit fair. Tomatoes, disappointing. Thames.—Apples: Fair at Thames; Tauranga, heavy; Te Puke, fair._ Apricots: Remaining varieties, particularly Moorpark, good. Lemons: The summer crop is lighter than usual. Nectarines: Medium to heavy in places. Oranges: Trees looking well; should be a good setting of fruit. Peaches: Heavy. Pears: Ppor. Plums: Fair; late varieties holding well. Plums (Japanese): Heavy. Tomatoes: Heavy in Thames district. Waikato— Apples: Average crop most varieties; some heavy. Lemons: Good crops expected. Nectarines and peaches: Good crops. Pears: Crops medium to light. Plums:' Above average; Japanese, heavy crops. Tomatoes: Hothouse, average crops; outdoor, poor crops. Grapes: Indoor, average crops; outdoor, good settign. Gisborne.— Apples: Average to : heavy. Apricots and peaches:. Light. Lemous. Good setting. Nectarines: Light to average. Oranges: Indications for good crop. Trees look remarkably well. Pears: Generally light. Plums: Heavy, lomatoes: Ripening retarded. Excessive rain .. has reduced crops. \Valuuts: Aveiage.
