HINTS AND IDEAS.

" FEATHER CUSHIONS.

MAKE YOUR OWN,

Have you ever thought of making your own feather cushions? By making them I mean cleaning and drying feathers from your own fowls after they have been killed and prepared for tho table.

Add lib of quick lime to a gallon of water and steep the feathers for several hours. Drain off the water and rinse tho feathers thoroughly in hot, cool, and finally cold water, to remove all trace of lime. Dry in the open air or a well ventilated shed, but be sure to cover with a large wire sieve or finely meshed wire, or the slightest breeze will carry them off and your labour will be in vain.

To ensure all dampness being removed stuff the feathei'6, not too tightly, into paper bags and place them in a cool oven for about half an hour.

One point to remember when filling your cushions is to soap thoroughly the inside of the" slip which is to contain the feathers. A piece of yellow soap rubbed over every portion of the slip, particularly along the joins, will prevent tho feathers from working through and your cushion gradually emptying itself.
