POLICE FOR SAMOA.

MAXIMUM OF 250 MEN FIXED. STATEMENT BY MINISTER. AWAITING NEGOTIATIONS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The Hon. G. W. Forbes said to-day that the maximum number of men it was proposed to send into camp (for the purpose of the military police force which is being prepared in case it is necessary to augment the police already 011 service in Western Samoa, is 250. No appointment has yet been made of the officer in charge of the force. It is understood that the Government's decision as to the necessity of sending reinforcements of police largely depends on the forthcoming visit to Samoa of the Minister of Defence, the Hon. J. G. Cobbe, and that it may be deferred until his arrival there.
