CHAPLAIN OF ST. JOHN.

REV. G. E. MORETON. ASSISTANT CITY MISSIONER. The Rev. G. E. Moreton, who has been appointed assistant city missioner in Auckland and takes up his duties at the end of-this month, has been sanctioned by the King as a chaplain to the Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem. Archbishop Averill is the only other churchman who has gained a similar appointment in New Zealand. The chaplains of the order in the British Empire are limited to thirty. Advice was received in Dunedin from Major-General Sir Percival S. Wilkinson, seretary-general to the order, that His Majesty had sanctioned the appointment of Mr. Moreton.
