ALL IN A HOME.
OWNED BY HUSBAND. U.S.A. COURT RULING. "What a wife makes for the home belongs to the husband," Justice George V. Mullan, of the United States Supreme Court, ruled last month in a decision in which he staged the ownership of 109 articles in the fonyr residence of Alma Clayburgh, opera singer, and her, husband, George, from whom she \has separated, is vested in the husband. Mrs. Clayburgh sued to recover the effects, most of which were declared by the justice to be her husband's property since, he ruled in effect, any article in a home belongs to the husband unless it can be proved it was a gift to the wife or was used solely by her. Mrs. Clayburgh can play the piano, her husband cannot, but the piano went to Clayburgh; Justice Mullan stating: "A piano has .been commonly found in a gentleman's home at least as far back as Jane Austen." Books, bed furnishings, table service, an automobile, desk blotters, a bridge table, even £40 worth of women's apparel and opera scores, were declared to be owned by the husband.
