CANTERBURY HARVEST.
WHEAT AND OATS. . CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. The new season's crop has commenced to arrive. A sample of North Canterbury wheat was offered last week. The wheat market is scarcely so firm as it was a few weeks ago. Millers are buying very little at the moment. Fowl wheat is unaltered. A couple of samples of Garton oats have also been offered, and an odd sample of Dunns and Algerians. The white oats were heavy, but a little discoloured. Values for September delivery are quoted at 3/11, f.0.b., s.i., for A's and 3/B.for B's. Gartons for .prompt delivery have been sold at 3/11 to 4/f.0.b., s.i. ' The later crops will turn out much better in yield thari the earlier ones. ■ - A little movement took place'last week in the potato market, but matters have quietened. A few sales were made at £4 17/6, f.0.b., s.i. The "flutter" waß doubtless due to the belief that the crop would be damaged by the heavy rains. Such has happened in a few districts, but the damage is not general: Some new season's ryegrass is coming on the market, samples showing some discolouration. Values are.unchanged. Chaff for prompt delivery is hard to get, and there is an inquiry for it.
