PRESENTATION.

MR. J. 0. CARPENTER RETIRES. On Tuesday the members of the staff of the North Auckland Lands and Survey Department said fai'ewell to Mr. JG. Carpenter, who is being retired on superannuation. Mr. Carpenter has been a member of the staff sine© the inception of the North Auckland Land District and had had long service in other land districts, The presentation took the form of a handsome gold watch suitably inscribed. The Commissioner, Mr. 0. N. Campbell, in handing over the gift on behalt of the staff, said that he regretted losing the services of an old and valued servant on account of having attained the retiring age. Other officers spoke of Mr. Carpenter in eulogistic terms. The recipient suitably replied, and the proceedings terminated by Ringing "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow."
