BLANK CHEQUES.
TEMPTATION TO CRIME.
CARELESSNESS IN BUSINESS.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
HAMILTON, this day.
Indiscriminate handing of blank cheque forms to unknown persons on request was commented upon by Detective-Ser-geant Thompson in a case, heard in Court to-day when Daniel Hebbey, aged 34, was charged with attempting to obtain £8 11/ from Nellie Wardrop, of Frankton, by means of a valueless cheque. The detective said accused obtained a blank cheque form from a business man in town last week.
Another young man who had appeared before the Court had been given a pair of blank cheque forms by another business man merely on application. The crime of passing valueless cheques, said the detective, was becoming very prevalent in this district, and business men should, for their own protection, refuse to g : > blank forms to persons whom they do not know. Accused was remanded till the 2Sth.
