Slotted Wings In R.A.F. Prove Effective.
PILOTS BETTER TRAINED.
(British Official Wireless.) j RUGBY, December 23.
In connection with the slotted wings device the decrease in the number of accidents and fatalities in the Royal Air Force occurred during a period when there was an increase in the number of squadrons from CI in 1926 to 75. There was also an increase in the speed of the machines.
Apart from the safety devices it is thought that one explanation of the improvement may be the fact that pilots now are trained more slowly ajid carefully and are led to regard .flying as part of a definite profession rather than an amusing sport. Consequently they are less inclined to take unnecessary risks and have ceased to admire the recklessness of some of the war pilots.
