MANAWATU RACING CLUB.

SUMMER MEETING. DECEMBER 26, 27, 28. REVIEW OF BOXING DAY FIELDS. GREAT CHARTER AND THE RAIDER DOUBLE FANCIES. (By Telegraph.—Special to " Star.") PALMERSTON NORTH, this day. For Wellington and district race goers the main attraction for the holidays will be the summer meeting of the Manawatu Racing Club on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. As the result of recent rains the track, provided the weather clears, will be in first class order. Acceptances are large, apart from the hurdle field of six, and the fourteen carded for the Manawatu Cup comprise several of the best handicappers in commission. Racing starts with the hurdles. The distance, one mile and three-quarters, may be too far for Red Bank, though he cannot be ignored. Diana s Lad will ha\ e to do a lot better than at Egmont. Fine Acre's form gives liirn a chance, and Novar, with firm going, should show up. Askari does not greatly appeal, but Aurora Borealis may be prominent. Novar has only got to keep well to improve on his fourth at ieilding the second day to be on hand at the finish. The form in the Maiden Plate is- not good class. Ben Hur, Leisure, Pari, Rational 11. and Tigrano have the bestperformances to date, and it rather points to the first pair doing best. Several of the hacks in the Tararua Handicap have run well lately,, and the list includes Make Up, Singer, Skyrider, 31 y Own, Kiriana, and Democratic. Democratic may be favourite, but Skyrider and Make Lp will go well.

The issue in the Manawatu Cup looks open. Rabbi is not certain to run, but if he does he should be troublesome. Although possibly not wound right up to concert pitch, Star Area is fit and well, and will make a big bid for his second successive victory. Cashier failed at Riccarton, but he did not look right, arid he has had time to freshen up. In his best form he will be dangerous, and lie will have the services of L. G. Morris. Seatown, so far as is known, is booked for Auckland, but he has a good prospect at Awapuni if it is decided to. start him. Hoylake ran well enough at Riccarton to place him high amongst the probables, especially as he has improved since then. He is, however, an unreliable horse. First Acre stayed a mile and threequarters in Sydney, so he should go the journey. He ran well both at Woodville and Egmont, though really he has not done anything here to suggest hi?, winning a Manawatu Cup. At the same time he may prove a thorn in the side of more-fancied runners. Great Charter is a horse of good class. So far, a mile has been his longest successive effort, but there is no reason to suspect that an extra half mile will prove beyond him. Arrow Lad is also in the sprint, and he does not greatly appeal over the distance. - Of the lighter weights. Merry Damon and Courageous appear the most likely. Great Charter, Cashier, and Star Area may do best. The form of Lady Pam and Princess Betty looks the best in the two-year-old race, with Ball Dress and Arajean the most likely improvers. In the hack sprint, Cadland will be making his reappearance, and he will no doubt be a good favourite. On what has been seen of him, he should justify the support. He will have some smart opposition, however, from Fernden, Acora, and Blue Paper. In the open sprint, The Raider, Consent, and Arrow Lad have form that looks better than that of the others, of whom Arikinui, Full Feather, Gold Cure, Gold Dawn, and Silver Coot have during the season either won or filled places. Aspiring, according to Auckland reports, will be there to contest the Railway Handicap, while Full Feather may be seen to better advantage over a longer journey. The Raider and Consent should run well.

In the concluding event, recent form is represented by Biianni and Blimp, and they* appear the most likely. The acceptances are:— TOKOMARU HURDLES of 200sovs. One mile and three-quarters. St. lb.
