CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP.
NEW ZEALAND TOURNEY,
The tliirty-ninth tourney for the above title is to be held in Wanganui during the Christmas holidays. The Hon. W. A. Yeitch. who is president of the New Zealand Chess Association, is to formally open the congress during the forenoon of Boxing Day. The entry list is as follows: —J. A. Erskine (present champion', Southland C.C.; C. J. S. Purely (Champion of N.S.W.), private entry; G. Gundersen (champion of Victoria), private entry; Rev. .Jeffrevs (Auckland C.C.), ,E. Rutherford (Stratford), L. Pleasants and P. 0. Scott (Wanganui C.C.), G. P. Anderson (Wellington C.C.), F. K. Kellinsr, W. J. Fairburn and K. Beyer (Wellington W.M. Club), E. E. Hicks and H. Tonp (Ngaio C.C.), and E. H. Severns (Nelson C.C.). Eour of these competitors are making a first appearance, viz., Messrs. Gundersen, Tonr>. Bever and Rev. Jeffrevs.
This full-round contest comprises 91 games. i.e., '3 rounds of seven cramos er.cli. It is expected to finish on Mer.rlay, January G.
