SEVERE THUNDERSTORM.

t ONE FAMILY STARTLED. HEAVY MANTELPIECE DISLODGED. (By Telegraph. —Press Association.) TE AROHA, this day. Duriiif a heavy thunderstorm yesterday afternoon, a heavy mantelpiece at the residence of Mr. R. L. Scott was dislodged and thrown into a room in ■which Mr. and Mrs. Scott and five children were assembled. Fragments of cement and brickwork were scattered all over the room, but no one was seriously injured. It is believed that a flash of lightning struck the chimney. The storm was widespread, and was the most violent experienced in Te Aroha for many years. The Thames Valley Power Boai'd's staff had a busy time mending fuses, which blew out all over the district, but the damage, though genera], was of a minor nature.
