TWO WOMEN GAOLED. !. ONE WITH 53 CONVICTIONS, f . Two more women will swell the band of idle and disorderlies who are in Mt. Eden gaol for Christmas. In the Police Court this morning, Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., sent Margaret Rutherford and May Thwaites up there for three months. .Constable Christiansen said that on every occasion that he visited the hotels, he saw Rutherford (44) drinking with other bad characters. He had seen her every day for the past week. "I have a 'husband keeping me, and he gives me £6 a month. I live at Avondale and surely I can go shopping in Hobson Street, can't 11" Accused's list was liancbd up to the magistrate. "What? You've been up here 53 times tefore," said Mr. Hunt. "Three months." "YOU POLICEMEN CAN SWEAR " "You policemen can swear all you like. I've always earned my own living, I have my own bank book, and I don't want you swearing my life away just as you d'd once before" In quite an excited way, May Thwaites, loungino- over, the dock, protesti-1 that she T-as anything but an idle and disorderly person. Again Constable Christiansen and Constable Wilson vowed that she was always about the hotels drinking. She had been associating with U\c previous person, and was even worse than her in one respect. "I haven't been here fo , * 11 years except for being drunk last week," pleaded accused. "Three months," was the answer.
