NEW SALVATION HALL,

OPENED BY COMMISSIONER.

The new Sanation Army church hall in Bryce Street was opened by Commissioner J. Cunningham on Saturday afternoon. The Mayor, Mr. J. It. Fow, unfurled the flag above the new building, and presided over the service that followed. The Hamilton Ministers' Association was represented by the Rev. P. Paris and the Rev. H. G. Gilbert. In a speech at the civic reception given to Commissioner Cunningham in the Town Hall, the Mayor said the reception represented the good will of the borough council. He deemed it an honour to be able to give a civic reception to a leader of a world-wide organisation. The commissioner thanked the Mayor and members of the council for their sympathy and encouraging remarks. A financial statement was submitted showing that of the expenditure of £3050 incurred there remained a debt of £1000. DENTAL CLINIC. On Saturday the combined Hamilton schools held a fete in Steel Park, Hamilton East, in aid of a fund being raised to erect a dental clinic. The South Auckland Caledonian Pipe Band supplied a programme of music and a baby show was a feature of the programme. ACCIDENT AT BOX FACTORY. Mr. Alfred Curtis, aged 64, married, a resident of Frankton, employee of the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company's box factory at Frankton, fell from a stack of timber on Saturday and had several ribs fractured. FIRE IN CHEMIST'S SHOP. Fire, which broke out in the chemist's shop of Mr. O. E. Coombridge, Victoria Street, at 3.30 p.m. on Saturday, was confined to the office. Goods hi the shop portion of the premises escaped damage, but a considerable quantity of chemicals was destroyed. The stock was insured for £000 in the South British Office.
